About The Medical Milestones Exhibit

This Medical Milestones in Dallas, 1890 - 1975 exhibit presents a chronological photographic history of milestones in medical care and education in Dallas, Texas between 1890 and 1975. Each of the 60 photos is accompanied by a description of the milestone portrayed. Taken together, these photos document the transformation of medical care in Dallas over a span of 85 years.

This web exhibit begins with a short essay describing the state of medical care in Dallas in 1890. The photo displays which follow are divided into six chronological sections, each covering about 10 to 20 years. Each section is on a separate page with a brief introductory essay, with small photos illustrating events from that period.

A companion to this exhibit—an digital collection titled “Dallas Medical Images, 1890 - 1975”—contains about 300 additional photographs with descriptions, further documenting the history of medicine and medical education in Dallas.

Unless otherwise noted, the images in the exhibit and repository are from the Archives and History of Medicine collections in the UT Southwestern Digital Library and Learning Center.
