Medical Milestones in Dallas, 1890 to 1975


A photographic history of milestones in the development of medical care in Dallas, Texas.


“Medical Care Milestones in Dallas, 1890-1975” is a digital exhibit created by the Library, University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas. Images in the exhibit come primarily from the Library’s Archives and History of Medicine Collections. Additional images were provided by: the Dallas Public Library’s Texas/Dallas History and Archives Division, Children’s Medical Center of Dallas, Crow Holdings, the Houston Academy of Medicine-Texas Medical Center Library, and Parkland Health and Hospital System.


Exhibit Timeline

This Medical Milestones in Dallas 1890 - 1975 exhibit presents a photographic history of milestones in medical care and education in Dallas, Texas. Each of the 60 photos is accompanied by a description of the milestone portrayed. The exhibit is divided into six chronological sections, each covering about 10 to 20 years. Taken together, these photos document the transformation of medical care in Dallas over a span of 85 years.

A companion to this exhibit—a repository titled “Dallas Medical Images, 1890 - 1975”—contains more than 450 additional photographs with descriptions further documenting the history of medicine in Dallas.
